Tooth brushing has become quite the fun thing to do around our household. We have been brushing Addison's teeth since before she had any teeth. The Dentist and Doctor said it's never to early to start! Lately, her desire to brush has been heightened. We keep her tooth brush and tooth paste in our bathroom. Every time we go in there she opens her mouth and says "teeth" and signs please. We always begin with wetting the brush and squeezing a pea sized drop of tooth paste, and we sing our trade mark "Brush Our Teeth" song. I kind made up a song and she liked it so I just went with it. Daddy now sings it with her too! It goes a little something like this: "Oh We brush and we brush and we brush our teeth, brushing brushing brushing all our teeth, and we brush and we brush and we brush our teeth , brush brush brush and spit it out- ALL DONE! " All the while Addison is grinning. I of course am helping brush because left up to her she would simply suck on the tooth brush. Don't get me wrong, I love it that she is taking an interest in good dental hygiene it is what comes after the tooth brushing that I dislike. When I take away the toothbrush is when the tantrum begins. I used to tell her we have to rinse off the toothbrush and put it away for next time but that doesn't quite work any longer. I have to reassure we will brush again later and distract her immediately. I guess I should take these tantrums in stride. And just know the best is yet to come. The doctor warned me that tantrums will become more frequent and that it is completely normal stage of development. I guess I will have to just grit my teeth and bare it!
