**Just a little preface ; This story is from the Poopie Chronicles written by me (I'm kidding). I have blogged about Addison and the potty so much I feel like I'm keeping a bathroom blog. So if you are tired of potty stories please by all means move on to the next post. After all, this is a blog for Addison and she may want to know some day about the lengths I went to to get her fully potty trained.
Every Potty Has a Pooper and That's why Mommy and Daddy KEEP inviting you, Addison Kuhn. We had a major break through on the potty this morning (no pun intended). Addison knows she is suppose to poop on the potty, she will say it, she will sing about it, but when it comes to doing it she just WON'T (with the exception of a few times) !!! Practice makes perfect right?
Well, any time I see that kid squat I scoop her up and invite her to the "Potty Party". I make up songs, I make up stories, I go to potty with her (I read that this is actually a good example for them to learn by), we read books, you name it I do it. After catching her squatting this morning, I placed her on the pot and waited a few minutes AND.... no poop. We came back to the living room and she assumed the pooping position. I again, scooped her up and placed her on the pot AND... SUCCESS. Maybe the lovely story I made up about Mommy and Daddy's poop is making her want to poop on the potty (yeah right). Yep, you read that correctly. I told her that Mommy and Daddy's poop lives in the potty and swims there. I told her that Addison's poop is sad because it wants to swim in the potty with Mommy and Daddy's poop so they can be one big happy family. Isn't this a great story? Hey! don't judge ,desperate times call for desperate measures.
Just a side note: The book Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi, is not only funny but, a must have during potty training. Addison LOVES the book. I love the part about camels. It says, "a one hump camel has a one hump poop and a two hump camel has a two hump poop, only kidding." It is adorable to hear Addison saying this line in the book.
I know poop isn't exactly the greatest of topics but, it is a necessary evil. Why get all grossed out about it? Why not make potty training fun and humorous. I'm not saying I want to talk about it during Thanksgiving dinner but I'm just trying to be silly so it isn't so scary for Addison.
It is funny because she is terrified to poop on the potty so all the times she has actually done it, she cries, claps, and acts scared/happy. Hooray for poop success on the potty. I'm going to keep inviting Addison to the Poop Party and hopefully someday she will simply walk into the bathroom and go poop without any prompting. One can hope right?
