So not only was this Addison's very first gingerbread house it was also De De's very first gingerbread house. I made one for the first time several years ago with Kevin when we were dating. Little did I know the house pretty much came pre-constructed. The house was complete just needed a decorators touch.
I have to say Deanna and I had a time trying to get the icing "glue" to be sticky enough to make the candies to stick. I had some left over chocolate icing from Addison's birthday cupcakes so we decided to use that instead. It worked way better. Both of us were so messy. We had icing up our arms, all over our hands, in between our fingers and toes (ok not really our toes but we were extremely messy.) There was ton of giggling coming from both of us. Addison had little interest in putting the candy on the house and about 100% interest in decorating the inside of her tummy with candy. Typical Addison. She did help a bit on the roof and door . It was funny because I could tell it was bothering Deanna that Addison wasn't decorating it perfectly. She asked me if it was ok that it wasn't perfect. I had to laugh because in my preschool class I always wanted the kids art projects to look like the diagram so everyone knew what it was. I took me a while to realize that what they make it their interpretation of the diagram and is their individual artwork. Addison is 3 years old, she can't construct a perfect gingerbread house and if I expected that from her I would be crazy . She is only going to be little once and if the decorations weren't straight is doesn't matter it was how much fun we had doing it that counts. So on a fun scale I give this project an A++.
After we had lunch Addison went to bed and Deanna and I talked and talked for hours. We had a very nice day together. Really looking forward to Christmas and spending time with family. Can't wait to make another gingerbread house next year. It was a lot of fun and a huge mess. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

glad you and deanna had a good time and you were able to spend some alone time with her and talk like before. i am sure it meant alot to her. I know she has missed you:)
Yeah. We have been talking and spending a lot more lately. Pretty much everyday we talk now. It is very important to me that Addison and the new baby are close to their grandparents. They have done a lot for us and we are very blessed. Can't wait for Christmas family time :)
