A Choke Ain't No Joke
It has been a few weeks now and obviously I did not stop to take a photo because it isn't something I want to remember but it will be etched in my brain forever. My cousin Lauren and her husband Clay were in town for a week long visit. One day while eating lunch, Lauren asked if Addison could have a gummy cherry. It is similar to a gummy worm but in the shape of a cherry. When Lauren was home back in May Addison became very fond of these gummy treats. The ones she brought this time were double the size of the ones Addison had before. I didn't think much of it so I gave her one and she began eating it. Clay noticed that Addison was making a weird noise and had a weird look on her face. He said "I think she is choking." I began to panic because she was turning colors and could not breath. I began to give her the Heimlich Maneuver but, was very unsure of how to do it on a child. Lauren thought to open her mouth and sweep her mouth. When she reached in she could feel the branch of the cherry and she grabbed it. Addison threw it up and could breath once again. Thank God Lauren and Clay were there. I was so scared. A million horrible thought were flashing through my mind. It just made me realize how badly I need to take a CPR and first aid class. When working with kids you have to stay current on these classes but since I don't work at the preschool my CPR and first aid are expired. Kevin and I will defiantly sign up. Lauren and Clay thanks for not panicking and for saving our little girl. Needless to say, no more gummy anything for Addison for a long long time.
