A Family Circus

At the beginning of April Deanna presented me with the idea of going to the circus as a family. I thought it sounded fun for Addison to have her Mom, Dad, Cousin Hayden, and Grandma all together to go to the circus. Well, Kevin decided he didn't want to go so Deanna only got tickets for she, Addison, Hayden and I. As the time grew closer I thought it would be nice for Deanna and Kevin to have some time together with the kiddos. I get to be with Addison all day everyday and Deanna always says she misses Kevin. So I planned a girls day with Holly and Kevin took my ticket to the circus. Addison was excited to go and spend a special day with her Daddy, Hayden, and De De. And I was very much looking forward to having a kid free day with Holly since at that time Mason had yet to be born. Kevin was not very excited to say in the least. The idea of the circus was not appealing to him in the least. I told him to go and enjoy time with his family and so he did.
Kevin got shall we say, a taste of my everyday dealing with Addison; only he got it as a double dose. As Dana had explained in one of her previous blog posts, age three has been trying. I think trying is a very nice way of putting it. Addison has been down right hard for the last year , add moving into a mess of a house ,and getting pregnant on top of that and well this last year has been quite the roller coaster ride. Don't get me wrong I love my family and house but my goodness things have been rough.
I obviously wasn't there for the circus but, hearing Kevin explain it made me giggle. He didn't have much fun that day. Apparently both kids were giving them trouble. Kevin said Addison through a fit over a stuffed elephant and Hayden had a melt down over a sword. Kevin wasn't going to give into the elephant and stood his ground. Deanna does whatever she can to appease her grandchildren even if it means giving in to whatever their hearts desire. Needless to say she got Hayden his sword and felt bad for Addison and got her the elephant, against Kevin's wishes. They both wanted slushies to which Kevin said no and Deanna bought them anyway. I guess it is a Grandparents prerogative to spoil her grand kids. She definitely spent way more money then she needed to that day but she wanted to make for a fun day. Kevin said half way through the show Addison was ready to leave and Hayden didn't like the sword he picked. Kevin took him to exchange the sword but, he ended up keeping the original sword he chose. I can't help but laugh to myself because this is the type of stuff I deal with on a daily basis and he was ready to blow his top after a few short hours. Parenting is hard and tests your patients constantly but it does have a lot of rewarding moments. Deanna had a good time, I think, and the kids enjoyed the experience and Kevin well, lets just say he won't be going to the circus any time soon :)
