Story/ Drama Time

OH MY GOSH! This weeks story hour was full of nothing but drama. Addison, Hayden, and Kayla were very happy to see each other. The Librarian, who was not the normal story teller, was running late due to a phone call. The troops were definitely getting restless. So this week was about cleanliness- baths, washing, tooth brushing etc. During the story Kayla sat quietly listening the entire time. Addison and Hayden on the other hand, were a different story. They both were yelling and carrying on. I think they were just ready to do some art. What can you expect from not even two year old? The Librarian was making up songs and putting a new spin on old songs. I think Addison didn't know what to think. If your happy and you know it "blink your eyes". She looked at the librarian like she was nuts. After the story telling is when the drama began............

The Librarian announced that we were going to paint with shaving cream. Deanna and Dianna didn't look convinced that this was a good idea. I have done this before with my two year olds at school and knew that it was messy but fun. So shaving cream was squirted in a pile on the table in front each kid. None of them knew what to think. I just shoved Addison's hands in shaving cream. She immediately began smearing it every where on the table, up her arms, it was on her face, all over the front of her shirt. Hayden needed a little encouraging so De De put his hands in and he began smearing. Kayla didn't want anything to do with getting messy. Dianna really wanted her to participate like the others and pushed her hands in too. Kayla go upset and made it clear she didn't want any part in the shaving cream. She began gagging. Dianna freaked out and thought she was allergic. She immediately cleaned her off and gave up. I think she was just really upset and when she gets upset she gags. I had a few kids in my class that did the same thing.

After the shaving cream the kids were encouraged to come up front hold a piece of paper and try to catch bubbles on paper. They were all having a good time. There were several cups on the table with bubbles and straws. They were for the adults to blow bubbles on paper for the kids.

Deanna give the cup to Hayden who knows one thing to do with a straw- Suck. I don't know what she was thinking he would do. He drank a small sip of the bubble water. Deanna flipped out! You would have thought his arms and legs were bleeding profusely. She was screaming and carrying on. Hayden didn't know what to think. He began crying so hard. I felt so bad for him. He was convinced that he had done something horribly wrong. I told Deanna not to freak out like that but to try and keep cool for Hayden's sake. It was just a very dramatic story time.
