Good Crafternoon!

Addison has a new hobby these days. She absolutely without a doubt loves to COLOR. This child would color all day and all night if we would let her. She colors at least once every day. We can't keep enough coloring books, crayons, plain paper, markers, or chalk for this kid. Being a crafty person myself (think it is goes back to the old left handedness thing) I am stoked that she is taking an interest in drawing and coloring. Her daddy and Poppie are both artists. In fact there are more then a few artsy people on both sides of our families.
Being that daddy had to work today (on Sunday- the supposed day of rest) Addison and I wanted to have a fun CRAFTernoon (pretty clever huh?) at home. We gave some of Addison's broken crayons a makeover or better yet a meltdown (ha ha). I'm also pretty darn funny to aren't I?
I think this is a great way to conserve. Most people/ kids don't particularly love broken crayons. Let's face it they are small, hard to use, ugly and well, broken. Putting them in a muffin tin and baking them is a perfect way to re-use them and make them into a cute shape little chubby toddler hands can hold. Although, I will take a moment and brag on Addison. She does hold her crayons, pens, and markers the correct way. We never taught her how to hold them. I guess it just feels natural to her. She is also excellent with her colors and shapes. OK- I had my moment of pride and now back to the story.
When you are done melting down the crayons you let them cool on the counter and then place them in the freezer and after 5-7 minutes they pop right out of the muffin cups and are cute and round. We mixed different colors in each muffin cup for a "rainbow" type effect while coloring. You can keep it solid or mix it up. Either way it is fun, free and conservative. Try it! You know you want to!
