We arrived home to a coffee table full of goodies for Addison. Grandma and Poppie Clause came while we were out and left Addison new pajamas, an ABC activity book, an Stuffed Elmo, new shorts, and some socks. Addison was so excited about all of her gifts. We dressed her in her new Minnie pajamas and put her to bed for her big whopping three hours of sleep. She looked like such a toddler. I just sat there taking mental pictures of her. How can Pajamas make a kid look so old. Probably because it wasn't the pajamas, she really is getting so big. I have noticed her talking to me more. She has been more aware of her surroundings. She loves the birds and points them out all of the time. She tells me things Daddy is doing like cutting the grass, at work, eating and so on. I can't believe my little 6 pound baby is an 18 month 23 pound walking, talking opinionated little girl. She has preferences on clothes, shoes, food, hair bows, and activities. Her personality is developing more and more each day. OK so I just went off on a tangent back to the story...
Me taking after my mother, who takes after her father, couldn't sleep Monday night. I had anxiety about not waking up on time to wake up Addison, the test itself, Addison's reaction, and the results. So when the alarm went off I jumped up and went to wake Addison. I kept thinking of the saying "never wake a sleeping baby". Does that rule apply for Toddlers too? I softly said her name and she sat right up rearing to go. For the next 3 hours we did everything imaginable to keep herself and us awake. We played in her playroom, we watched a video, we listened to The Beach Boys repeatedly, She played with her hair bows for about 45 minutes- let me just say this was the highlight of the morning (she kept taking them in and out of the basket and sitting on them and then putting them back in the basket) It was so boring but it kept her awake and preoccupied. Daddy and Addison experienced their first sunrise together and listened to the birds. Then she had to report back to me about what they heard.
Finally, at six thirty we headed to Kosair. This was the hardest car ride of my life. Addison wanted to sleep soooooo bad. She was getting so angry at me for being annoying keeping her awake. I was singing and clapping and really getting on my own nerves, but it did the trick. I kept her awake the whole way there.
Kosair Children's hospital is such a kid friendly place. They have so many fun and beautiful decorations. Addison really enjoyed the enormous Hot Air balloon hanging in the lobby. She called it a ball. Every inch of this place is covered in cute kiddie decorations. I loved the circus display when you walk in.
Once we were checked in the process began. The EEG tech had to measure Addison's head. She immediately began to cry like someone was hurting her. She continued to scream and cry for the next ten minutes taking few breaks due to exhaustion. She was so tired. After head marking, measuring, conductivity gel, electrodes, and a gauze wrap the test was ready to begin. The placed a strobe light in front of her face to see if they would cause any seizures. We sat in the chair Addison in my lap Da Da to our right watching Mickey Mouse. About ten minutes into the test she fell asleep. She didn't wake up until the tech began to wipe off her head. I felt glad the test was over and we could all go home to sleep and that is exactly what we did! We will keep you all posted on what happens next. Thanks to all for your support. We love you and are so lucky to have such wonderful family and friends!
